Sara Bareilles: King Of Anything

If there’s one commercial pop singer I will support, it’s Sara Bareilles. After hitting #1 on the Billboard charts with her infectious track, “Love Song,” off of Little Voice (which is ironically a song the label forced her to write to fill out the album), she was finally known nationwide and then worldwide for that beautiful voice of hers. She can sing with a really nice alto voice when she wants to but she also has this amazing ability to reach the notes up there that I only wish I could attempt. Her songs are a bit on the cute and obvious side, but when she sits at the piano and belts her heart out, I am quite envious of her talent. Just watch this.

She’s getting ready drop her new album, Kaleidoscope Heart, on September 7 and she’s released a new music video and a single titled “King of Anything” in anticipation. It doesn’t have her best lyrics but it’s still catchy. You can check it out after the jump.

However before you head down there, I also wanted to let you know that there are two bonus Sara Bareilles tracks. The first is a recording of “Gravity” sung by UCLA’s Awaken A Cappella group. To clear any confusion up as to why I’m including it, it’s because while Bareilles was also popular in the Hotel Cafe scene in LA, she also was a part of this co-ed A Cappella group. How do I know this? Well, let’s just say someone also used to be in an A Cappella group (but an all female one which unfortunately limited our arrangements). So with that knowledge, I found this track on BOCA (Best of College A Cappella) 2004. To be on this compilation, a group has to be selected and possibly one of the winners in some form at the ICCA that year. This track which was written by Bareilles was performed by her and group well before it made it onto her debut commercial album.

The other track is a really odd discovery. It’s a remix of Bareilles singing Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire” but it’s been remixed by The Metahumans who I unfortunately don’t know too much about. However, I do know that Bareilles performs this song quite often in her live sets and that this remix track came off of an EP titled “Test Sounds and Burn Music (from Deep Space)” which features five other tracks. Check it all out below and see what you think!

  1. Thanks so much! I was just randomly listening to Sara Bareilles today and decided to google her. So glad I did since I found your post. Great songs. Love them both.
