I previously mentioned the band POLLS when I posted about new JAXART band, Slow Animal. This time I want to focus on the three-piece Los Angeles band who used to be called The Arms. Both names are generic but at least there won’t be any confusion on the internet when POLLS actually do blow up. There’s nothing on that name when you currently google it.
Just like their new label mates, Slow Animal, POLLS is another display of JAXART’s fine taste in music. I’m a bit disappointed to know that this band existed all this time (even if they were performing under another name) and I never knew. I’m not sure if their sound has changed since they switched band names but I do know this: Their self-titled EP, which will be released on July 20th via most digital outlets, is one of the best collections of noise-heavy dream pop songs I’ve heard from a local band since Autolux. (POLLS’ sound isn’t so much shoegaze but there are moments when songs touch on the familiar organic feel in local indie rock.) Produced by Jack Burnside of Mezzanine Owls (another JAXART artist), there are five solid tracks on there that are all so meaty it’s a pleasure to drown in all the textures.
Check out their track, “Executive Toys,” below! If you’re hoping to catch them live, POLLS will be celebrating their EP Release with a performance at the Bootleg Theatre on July 27th.
