Superhumanoids Music Video: Hey Big Bang

I’ve been a fan of Los Angeles-based band, Superhumanoids, ever since someone mentioned their name. It’s pretty unique. I’m not going to forget a name like this. It’s a good thing their name stuck in my head because when I actually went to check their music out, I was very pleased with what I heard.

Walking Sleep (formerly The Flying Tourbillon Orchestra) has been one of the few LA bands to top my list of great local pop bands and although Superhumanoids’ sound drastically differs, they have now joined those few bands at the top of my list. In a large city that is overflowing with surf rock and noise bands, hearing pop done right is always refreshing and it makes me thankful to know that there are a few great groups who know what they’re doing with a genre that has gotten such a bad reputation from mainstream radio.

Superhumanoids excel at smooth pop music that is danceable. There is some sampling but their musicianship through vocals and organic instrumentation all snowballs into a very impressive result. Sarah’s vocals in songs such as “Hey Big Bang” are soothing among the staccato beats and guitar chugs and they’re also great live. I was lucky enough to witness them as the first band of the day to get a crowd dancing at WAVED OUT earlier this summer. If you want to experience their kaleidoscopic pop anthems, they’ll be performing at The Echo on the 12th as part of Mississippi Man’s residency show. They’ll also be performing at Origami Vinyl on July 13 to celebrate the release of their own EP, “Urgency.

Aside from making notable tunes of their own, they’re also great at remixes. They’re always churning out new ones and guess what? They did a Local Natives one! (I told you there would be more of these.) Check their brand spanking new video of “Hey Big Bang” out as well as their remix of “Who Knows, Who Cares” after the jump!
