Somehow Brooklyn’s Au Revoir Simone is getting away with being three girls who play synths. You’d think we’d need more than just synths to make a good pop group but with these three lovely ladies, we’re obviously wrong. They’ve already released three albums which have all been pretty successful in the indie realm. They’ve got the attitude (they’re so adorably into their music live), they’ve got the vocals and they’ve got some clever songwriting skills. It can be fun and it can also be beautiful.

However, Swedish singer-songwriter (and mash up artist in his own right) Jens Lekman has managed to take the music of Au Revoir Simone to a whole other level with his remix of their track, “Shadows.” The familiar swooping melodies and grand orchestrations make me wonder what Lekman has been up to lately. The last time I heard about him was when he contracted Swine Flu on tour. This remix is nothing but a good sign he’s doing well but when’s his next album coming out? I hope it’s sometime soon… I used to read up on his blog where he dishes out very, very, very personal ordeals. That’s how I found an awesome mash up of his song, “If I Could Cry (It Would Feel Like this)” with R Kelly’s “Rockstar” by The Hood Internet.
