Another artist I was incredibly lucky to see live at Sasquatch Festival a couple of weekends ago was Sweden’s singer-songwriter, Tallest Man On Earth. Kristian Mattson who performs under that moniker isn’t literally the tallest man on earth but he does have an incredibly captivating stage presence which towers over others with just his vocals and his guitar. Folk music has never echoed so loudly through one man and his instrument.
Considering the fact that it is quite difficult for me to get into solo singer-songwriters these days, Mattson’s performance at Sasquatch was remarkable enough for me to forget how much space was surrounding him on stage. As Tallest Man On Earth he rightfully does not permit any space in his robust sound.
Just take a listen to the gorgeous “King of Spain” below but before that, you get a little treat: Tallest Man On Earth’s Mattson performing Paul Simon’s “Graceland.” If that isn’t a match made in heaven in regards to covers, I don’t know what is.
