There hasn’t been one album by The New Pornographers that I didn’t like. Although I thought Challengers was a bit weaker than Twin Cinema, there’s just something about this Canadian collective that pulls together sincere magic with all their songs. Not only do I adore Neko Case and Carl Newman but there’s always such an obvious camaraderie I enjoy watching when I see this massive group live.
I just saw them at Sasquatch Music Festival up at The Gorge where Neko actually left her hair curly and she and Carl were both cracking jokes about a blow-up whale in the audience. They played a lot of old classic tunes but they also played their most recent single, “Your Hands (Togehter)” off of Together which was great to hear live for the first time.
They also have a video for the track. It doesn’t really make sense to watch martial arts being performed by dancers but those Canadians are crazy (in a good way). Besides, it ends in a pretty cute and funny way. Check it out below and grab the track as well.
