Tegan and Sara are two cute twin sisters who make cute music. I’m sorry if that description offends you but that pretty much sums up my opinion on this indie rock duo. Don’t get me wrong, I love tracks of theirs such as “Walking With A Ghost” but they don’t have enough of that raw gumption I like female rockers to have. I’ve seen them a live a couple of times – once at Coachella and most recently at this year’s Sasquatch – and I have to admit that their on stage banter is pretty funny. When I happened to catch some of their set at Sasquatch’s main stage, I was actually in line for a teriyaki noodle bowl and heard them explaining to the crowd why it would be a disaster if they were to beat box for everyone on stage. They may have refused to lay down some vocal percussion but they did go into a song titled “Alligator” which is well… cute.
However, one of my new favorite chill wave artists, Toro Y Moi, managed to spice the song up with his remix and what else can I say besides the fact that I like the song better now? The Alligator LP actually comes with 16 other remixes but check Toro Y Moi’s rendition out below and decide for yourself. I also included an mp3 of “Walking With a Ghost” although all you hardcore Tegan & Sara fans probably already have it.
