Sleigh Bells: Tell ‘Em

If you haven’t heard of the duo, Sleigh Bells, yet, I’m assuming you’re from Mars. Besides The xx, they’ve been the most hyped up band since we’ve been aware of them online around October 2009. Only this time, I’m totally buying into the hype whereas I can’t really say that for The xx. (Beautiful music but they literally bore me to tears when I listen to them sober or live.)

Sleigh Bells members include guitarist Derek Miller and vocalist Alexis Krauss, who have only recently released their debut album Treats via N.E.E.T. (M.I.A.’s label) but they were already well-known for underground and noise-frenzy hits such as “Crown on the Ground” and “A/B Machines.” The most interesting part is that people actually went out to BUY the album instead of just pirating it. They sold 12,000 copies during its first digital release week.

I have to admit that “Rill Rill” (which used to be called “Ring Ring”) is totally misleading if that’s the only song you’ve heard by them, so I suggest you give the entire album a chance. There’s nothing but catchy hooks hidden in all those R&B-pop infused noise rock tunes. Two tracks I particularly enjoy are “Kids” (which used to be called “Beach Girls,”) and “Infinity Guitars” but the opening track is also a great one.
