Foals is a favorite of mine. There’s no doubt about it. The five-piece English band, who are also signed to one of my favorite labels in the states (Sub Pop), may have started out with a few math rock elements early on in their sound but I am really enjoying their latest album, Total Life Forever. There are definitely some tropical elements sprinkled on the album throughout the entire listen but when you’ve got strong songs (and a strong opening track at that) like “Blue Blood” (which was also on April’s mixtape), it’s hard to deny that Foals has written some of the most daring, new and impressive songs in the last few years.

Of course, their videos are always a bit daring as well. Their latest for “Miami” has body builders and transgenders duking it out and I’m not quite sure to say about it except that it’s an interesting watch. Lots and lots of skin but kind of funny, too. Although it was shot in Los Angeles and directed by Dave Ma, perhaps he had some hidden messages about Miami? I can’t confirm anything except that there are a few well-known faces in the video.
